Writing Books

One of my centers is called the writing center. After noticing that some of my students were ready to write on their own I created some mini books. These books are small and are easily made with scissors, construction paper, and staples. I am seeing some great work and just wanted to share with you some of the first books that were made by your children. I threw out some ideas such as: books about food, family, or favorite things. All of the words were spelled by sounding out the letter sounds.

Library Fun!

We listened to wonderful stories about Mexican rebozo's. A rebozo is a woman's garment that is made in the shape of a rectangle. It may be worn as a scarf or shawl. We learned that a rebozo can be used for many other things such as: a super hero cape, butterfly wings, princess wear, ballerina wear, and even a bullfighter's cape! Your children have THE best imaginations!!!!

Fire Prevention Week

In honor of fire prevention week our counselor visited our classroom wearing her father's fire suit. We learned why a firefighter MUST wear the suits as well as how to become a firefighter when we grow up. Mrs. Roden informed our class that she was a volunteer firefighter before working at our school. The kids had a great time talking with her and even had a chance to smell her gloves which smelled like fire.

APPLES, APPLES, APPLES!

We have sadly come to a close on our apple unit. We had a lot of fun learning about apples! Your children learned that apples come in different colors and they grow on trees. We also talked about the parts of an apple as well as the different foods an apple makes. We taste tested many items including: a red delicious apple, a granny smith apple, a golden delicious apple, applesauce, apple juice, and apple cinnamon Cheerios. The apple juice was a huge hit! We created many graphs documenting our favorite foods. Below is one that I quickly drew on our board. We also displayed a graph of our favorite apple in our room.
