The First 9 Weeks in My Classroom: We will be studying: squares and square roots; comparing, ordering, and converting whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals; graphing; and, finding formulas for volume and area.
Homework: I believe that homework gives students an opportunity to practice the important Math concepts we are learning during class. Consequently, I usually assign homework every Monday and Wednesday. The homework assigned on Monday will be due on Wednesday. The homework assigned on Wednesday will be due on Friday. Students will receive Extra Credit if they turn assignments in early I try to avoid assigning homework over the weekends because I believe the weekends should be reserved for family time and resting up for the new week to come. I also assign a Problem of the Week (POW) most weeks. These are more challenging problems that may require students to incorporate a variety of mathematical concepts into their solutions.
Assessments: In addition to assigning regular Math quizzes and tests, San Antonio ISD also assigns "Formative Mini Assessments" twice during each 9 weeks.

All About Me

I attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona where I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. After graduating in 1989, I pursued a variety of careers. I have worked in sales and marketing of computer hardware and software, trained Polo horses, and worked as a reporter, photographer, and news editor for a weekly newspaper.
My teaching philosophy is that all children are capable of learning and achieving at a high level. In order to help my students succeed, here at Harris Academy and throughout their lives, I believe I must provide a classroom environment that is safe, engaging, and enjoyable.
