Castillo, Elizabeth A: Special Education

My classroom

My conference period is 2:00 pm until 2:55 pm.
This first nine weeks will be addressing the Voyager Reading Program in which the students will be implementing reading strategies that can be used in all classes. They will be reading Expeditions based on technology, diseases and persuasive writings. The district has also implemented a new reading program called Read 180. This program will include computer software, audiobooks with paperbacks, whole group instructions as well as small group instruction. This program will work on student's reading comprehension as well as reading strategies.
Homework is given as an enrichment or an extension to the lesson so that the students can make a connection with their lives as well as with the content text.
Upcoming tests will be comprehension assessments that are given after every expedition.

My teaching philosophy is quite simple. Every student can learn no matter what obstacles they may face. I teach my students to take owenership of their learning as well as their futures. I am an advocate for my students both in and out of the classroom.
