Welcome new 8th graders and parents to Social Studies! In 8th grade we will be studying Unites States history from the year 1607 to 1877. We will learn how the British colonized the new world, how those colonists revolted to create the United States of America, and how new Americans developed a plan of government that has lasted over 220 years. In the second semester, we will study the policies of the first seven presidents of the United States, including Manifest Destiny and sectionalism. Our course ends with the causes and effects of the Civil War and Southern Reconstruction.
This period in history is my personal favorite to study. I hope that I can bring my enthusiasm for the subject to all of my students and their parents. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments!
