PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

Anyone can be a teacher, but only a few possess the qualities it takes to be an effective teacher.

The effective teacher is an educational leader. The teacher must lead by example to inspire students to learn, not just in the classroom, but in life. The effective teacher inspires a desire to learn by demonstrating to students his/her own passion for learning. The ultimate goal is to instill in each student the values of life long learning and promote independent and critical thinking.

The effective teacher is supportive of all students. A classroom should be an environment where each student feels safe to grow and learn. The teacher is responsible for creating this environment where each student feels safe to ask questions, pose hypothesis, and learn from failure as well as success.

The effective teacher motivates students to do their best. An educator needs to set high standards, accept nothing less, and truly believe that students can rise up to meet those standards.

The effective teacher studies human development, learning styles, effective teaching practices and instructional strategies. Each student possess their own unique style of learning. Only the teacher who studies these aspects of teaching can effectivley teach the students in their classroom.

Finally, the effective teacher understands that teaching is an interactive process. The students and teacher explore and create knowledge together. Each student brings their own experiences, knowledge, insights and perspectives which is the basis for their learning and academic achievements.
