This Nine Weeks in My Class:
6th Grade: The daily warm-up is to practice punctuation skills. I present mini-lessons to develop vocabulary, reading and grammar skills such as words parts (prefixes, base words and suffixes). parts of speech (noun, adjective and verbs) and elements of fiction (character, setting, plat, theme). The students learn to take Cornell notes for study purposes. For writing I model writing and analyze samples with the students. They will be practicing narrative and descriptive writing. The students read a variety of fiction including short stories, myth and folktales. To improve comprehension we work on retell, summary, main idea, details, cause and effect and fluency skills.
