McNay Art Museum Field Trip

All the art students will be attending field trips to the McNay Art Museum during December. The Sixth Grade students will go to the McNay on December 1st. The Seventh Grade students will go on December 8th. The Eighth Grade students will go on December 15th. All the field trips will take place between 9:00 and 11:00. The students will miss three classes and be back at school in time for lunch. Any parents who would like to attend the trip should call the school at 226-4952 and ask to speak with our community liaison Mrs. Garcia.

American Sign Language Hands

Our seventh grade art students just finished a drawing assignment that involved creating detailed drawings of hands. The students began by practicing making contour (outline) drawings of their hands in various positions. Next they received a handout showing the American Sign Language alphabet. They drew the symbols for letters to spell out positive affirmations and mounted the finished drawings on construction paper.

Grid Enlargement Drawings

The seventh grade art classes combined their artistic abilities with math skills to create a cartoon poster. They began by drawing a 1/2 inch square grid on comic strip panels they selected from newspapers and comic books. Next they figured the ratio necessary to fit this grid on an 18" by 24" sheet of drawing paper. They painstakingly enlarged the comic strip panels one square at a time onto the larger paper and finished the poster using markers and colored pencils.

Sixth Grade Pattern Paintings

The Sixth Grade Art Students have just completed a painting unit. After learning how to mix the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) together to make the secondary colors (orange, green, violet), the students drew a repeat pattern on a square sheet of paper. They added color to this pattern using tempera paint.
